Application Process

Every year there are hundreds of cruise ships that leave from the shores of Australia, New Zealand, China and Singapore. Each cruise ship supplies ample entertainment for their guests – one such entertainment is the skill and passion of Special Interest Speakers.

Do you have a hobby or profession that people find interesting? Do you have experience speaking in front of people? Are you looking to have the working holiday of your life? And when we say work, it’s really fun, sharing with others and being part of their cruise experience. Something you and they will remember for years to come.\

Join us on a cruise departing from Australia as a Special Interest Speaker.

For ships departing from Australia and New Zealand, preference is for holders of Australian or New Zealand passport holders.

When a cruise ship is sailing to its next destination, this is known as a day at sea. On these specific days, Special Interest Speakers are engaged to provide educational, enrichment and entertainment to guests. Each day at sea will provide a 45-60 minute opportunity for a speaker to present to an audience of 20 to 200+ guests.

Additionally, each cruise requires a Destination or sometimes a Port Speaker to give a short presentation (approx 50 minutes) about the next port of call. This position requires a dynamic speaker who is well versed on the destinations of the cruise.

As an Special Interest or Destination Speaker, you will have access to a data projector and screen to use during your presentations (bring your own computer). If additional equipment is required, please let us know at the time of your application. You and your guest will will be appointed with an inside twin share cabin and will have full access of all ship amenities, just like a passenger. In fact, when you are not speaking – that is just what you are, a passenger!

For more details go to Speaker Descriptions.

This means you must attend levels of workshops at your own expense in order to send in your proposal and become one of our team.

If your application is approved a placement fee of up to $65 to $75 AUD day applies depending upon the cruise line. For example, a seven day cruise would cost you only $455. AUD for two people! Your placement fee covers all costs that are related to your application process. This consists of interviews, communications with the cruise line, completing formal applications receiving and sending proposal and completing contracts. This fee includes your accommodation, meals, entertainment and more! Your costs are whatever you spend on board such as alcohol, specialty restaurants, special coffees, land tours & daily gratuities. Some cruise companies pay your gratuities. What a great way for you and your guest to see wonderful places, meet people and be a part of the positive energy generated on board.

Cruise Line Approval Process

Each cruise requires different talent and a different number of speakers. We will assess each applicant based on experience, quality of speaker and need. When we have final approval from the Cruise Line that your proposal has been accepted we will:

  • Contact you with the dates and confirm your availability.
  • Send you a confirmation packet and invoice for the rate x number of cruise nights.
  • Upon completion of the required paperwork and payment we will send you a paid invoice and booking contract.

Once you have received your booking contract you can make your travel plans. Please do not make travel plans until this has arrived. The cruise lines take no responsibility for any placements that they cancel. We recommend you have travel insurance in case of any issues that could arise.

As time is of the essence we will do all possible to confirm your cruise as soon as we can. For cruises 3 or more months in advance, we may not get final confirmation from the Cruise line until 4 to 6 weeks prior to departure dates.
